Our Camps

Girl Scouts of Rhode Island, Inc. owns four beautiful camp properties, carefully maintained by our property staff for the benefit of our girls, alumnae, adult volunteers and the community at large. All of our properties are accredited by the American Camp Association.

CAMP COOKIE
Camp Cookie, located in Glocester in the northern part of RI, is known for its oak and pine woodlands, medium-sized pond, a one-mile long hiking trail and many brilliant flowers and plants marked along the way.  There is also a large playing field at Cookie that is ideal for organized sports, games and sledding.   

Program Opportunities:

  • Lodge, platform tent, and tent camping opportunities
  • Sports and games in playing field
  • Nature hikes on the trails
  • Historical and archeological exploration of stone walls and earthen dam
  • Apple picking at nearby farms
  • Walks to nearby sheep farm and one-room school house
  • Sledding and snowshoeing on playing field in winter months
  • Canoeing on camp’s pond- Council approval required
  • Near Emerald Square Mall

Accommodations:
MacColl Lodge is a heated lodge; up to 18 campers may spend the night in the building. Four unheated Wayfarer cabins are also available.  One small cabin is a leader’s cabin.  Up to eight girls (without cots)  may sleep in each cabin.  Total of  24 campers.

CAMP HOFFMAN
Camp Hoffman, our primary resident camp located in West Kingston, RI, is situated on the shores of Larkin Pond and is known for its beautiful pine groves, open meadows, a historical cemetery and many hiking trails.  Hoffman has platform tent units with flush toilets, three heated lodges and many program buildings. 

Program Opportunities:

  • Lodge, platform tent and primitive camping opportunities
  • Ideal site for community camping and events
  • Camp Green Forest, one of four GSRI day camps, is also located on-site
  • Hiking on many long and short trails
  • GSRI museum on site. Docents offer tours by request only.  Contact GSRI for details.
  • Swimming and canoeing on Larkin Pond- Council approval required
  • Sports and games in meadows
  • Historical exploration of cemetery
  • Nearby South County biking trail from West Kingston to Wakefield
  • Near University of RI for sporting events and fairs
  • Apple and pumpkin picking at nearby farms
  • Near the Great Swamp Management Area
  • Near many South County beaches

Accommodations:
Camp Hoffman has twelve platform tent units with various camper capacities.  Also located on the premises are four heated buldings, including a newly constructed dining hall.

CAMP PROMISING ACRES
Camp Promising Acres, located in Swansea, Massachusetts, is best known for its many rolling fields bordered by oak woods.  Other natural features of this camp include maple swamps, three small ponds, a stream, foot bridge, stone walls and a historical cemetery.  The grounds also have a swimming pool. 

Program Opportunities:

  • Lodge, platform tents and primitive camping opportunities
  • Hiking on many good trails
  • Historical exploration of cemetery and stone walls
  • In ground swimming pool on site
  • Wildlife exploration- many types of birds, turtles and fish especially abundant here
  • Cross country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding in winter months
  • Sports and games on large fields
  • Great site for community camping and events
  • Near Fall River site- i.e. Battleship Massachusetts and Horseneck Beach
  • Near Swansea Mall

Accommodations:
The heated lodge has a small leader’s bedroom with 2 beds.  Up to 20 campers sleep in bunkbeds in the NEW addition at the lodge. Hemming’s Way Platform Tent Unit has four platform tents. One small leader’s tent is available.  Up to eight campers (without cots) may sleep in each tent. Total of 24 campers.

CAMP ROCKY FARM
Camp Rocky Farm, five acres of lawns and small wooded groves, is located in scenic Newport, RI near the famous mansions and many beautiful beaches. It is home to the Elms building, a modern lodge that can sleep up to 20 people year-round.  There is also an outdoor hard top cooking area adjacent to the lodge.

  • Games and sports on field
  • Near famed Ocean Drive and its beautiful beaches
  • Sea-life and tidal pool exploration at beaches
  • Biking and hiking in scenic Newport
  • Hiking the Cliff Walk near camp
  • Short walk to Newport mansions
  • Near Tennis Hall of Fame museum and courts
  • Near Naval War College
  • Near Redwood Library
  • Near Thames Work glass-blowing studio on Thames St.- gives tours
  • Near Thames Science Center
  • Near Brick Market and Bowen Wharf shopping areas

Accommodations:
Elms Lodge sleeps up to 16 girls in bunk beds.  2 leader’s bedrooms are available with 2 beds in each room.
