Part A: Leadership Essentials is a three-hour course introducing the new leader to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The course covers the basic values and ideas that underlie the Girl Scout program and introduces the new Journey program, as well as traditional badges and patches programs.
Part B: Volunteer and Troop Essentials is a three-hour course introducing new leaders to to Girl Scout policies and practices. It starts with Girl Scout traditions and covers recent research into what girls need for healthy development and how the Girl Scout program promotes this. Safety-Wise, the Girl Scout book on standards and safety measrues, is covered in depth. Fiscal policy and financial standards are reviewed. Finally, the course shows new leaders how to start a troop, recruit adult help and organize a meeting.
Part C: Outdoor Day is a six-hour course taught on selected Saturdays from April to November at Camp Hoffman (West Kingstown, RI), Camp Promising Acres (Swansea, MA) and Camp Cookie (Chepachet, RI). It introduces new leaders to a GSRI camp and shows them how to prepare girls for a day outside at a camp site. New leaders must complete parts A & B of the training in order to conduct troop meetings. To be fully trained, new leaders must also complete part C. Girl Scout program books are sold at all A & B sessions. Information about what to bring to trainings and how to prepare for them are included in the confirmation form once you register for the course(s). There is no cost for the New Leader Training. This course will provide an introduction to the Journey books, as well as other program activities. Participants will go over requirements, program and troop/group governance. Please sign up for Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior or Ambassador level. Prerequisite: New Leader Training parts A & B. Bring: GSRI Leader Manual and appropriate age-level books if you have them. Books will be available for sale. No classes currently scheduled. To provide adults with the basic knowledge, skills, planning, methods and techniques to enable troops to have a successful troop camp experience. Successful completion of Troop/Camp Training will qualify an adult to take a troop cabin and/or platform tent camping. Attendance at ALL sessions of each course is mandatory for completion. Courses consist of 6 hours of classroom sessions and hands-on training from Saturday, 8:00 AM to Sunday, 3:00 PM..

For leaders that have completed Troop/Camp Training prior to 2003. This course is intended to update leaders on polcies, procedures, and updates at the camps. Prerequisite: Troop/Camp Training (prior to 2004) Saturday, March 13, 2010 9:30am-12:00pm Council Office Purpose: Troop Trips II is required for all leaders planning trips of more than 100 miles from their communities and/or overnight trips (including museum overnights). This course is not required for overnight camping trips at GSRI camps because leaders receive a full training at the Troop/Group Camp Training session.
Tuesday, March 9, 2010 (NEW!) 6:30-8:30pm Council Office First Aid and CPR training are required for at least one adult accompanying troops on trips or outings.Completion of the below courses will meet the First Aid requirement of the Leadership Development Award.Fee: $20 payable to the trainer on the day of training (cash or check) No classes currently scheduled For leaders who were previously certified. Kingston as Rangers, people who are on-call to answer questions and help troops and groups using the facilities. Prerequisite: For adults who have completed Troop Camp Training No classes currently scheduled. The GSUSA Program Aide design is offered to all Cadette, Senior and Ambassador leaders or other adults who wish to give Program Aide training to girls in grades 7 through 12.
These classes will focus on the current requirements for the Gold and Silver Award. Please register if prepared to write a Gold or Silver award proposal during the 2009/2010 year. Work on the award must be completed, including the final report, by September 30, 2011. Please note that both girls and adult leaders may register for this workshop. When registering, please indicate whether you are pursuing the Gold Award or the Silver Award. In the fall of 2009, award requirements were updated.
