When you compare the costs of other girl activities, like dance, soccer, ice skating, and music lessons, Girl Scouting is a remarkable bargain. Each girl is only required to pay $12 national dues each year. This amount goes directly to Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).
We also ask each year for a contribution of $18 (or more) to Girl Scouts of Rhode Island’s Family Partnership Campaign, for a total annual fee of $30 ($12 plus $18). This additional amount stays right here at home – Rhode Island, southeastern MA and Pawcatuck, CT. An investment in our Family Partnership Campaign helps to pay for:
The Family Partnership Campaign is a vital part of our annual philanthropic efforts and we thank you for your ongoing support of Girl Scouts of Rhode Island, Inc. in this way. Philanthropic donations – including grants, corporate contributions, special events, and donations from many individual “Friends of Girl Scouting” – help cover the council costs that product sales, camp fees and program fees do not cover. Read more about GSRI’s finances by accessing our 2009 Annual Report (PDF).
Being able to say that a large percentage of our Girl Scout families support us financially is crucial to our efforts to leverage additional support from corporations and foundations. We are already proud to say that 100% of our staff and 100% of our board of directors makes a financial contribution to GSRI each year!
When you register your daughter for summer camp, we provide you with the opportunity to make a donation to our campership fund. Girls who want to attend Girl Scout summer camp, but cannot afford to do so, can apply for financial aid from our campership fund. Families applying for financial aid must pay the $35 per session deposit and most families who receive financial aid receive about 50% of the total cost.
In 2010, thanks to the generosity of parents, individuals, foundations, companies, civic organizations and religions organizations, we were able to distribute more than $38,000 in camperships to 225 girls throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
